Vagar airport: upgrade to IP at an operational airport

Naviair, the Danish Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSP) is responsible for air traffic management at Vagar airport. Vagar is the only airport in the Faroe Islands and is the main operating base for the Faroese national airline, Atlantic Airways.

The Faroe islands use an Air Traffic Control (ATC) Voice Communications and Control System (VCCS) of MEP since 2015. The TCS990 is a fully digital voice switch designed specifically to meet the needs of controllers working around the clock in mission-important environments.

Upgraded to a full IP system

At initial installation analogue radios where in use, also at the 3 remote sites.
In August 2021 the system was upgraded to a full IP system, making use of Best Signal Selection for the ED-137 radios. Together with it’s partner Copperchase, the MEP staff took care of the on site upgrade which was executed while the Airport was in full operation. The upgrade was on time and to full satisfaction of the Vagar staff.
